History of Fairfield

The Puritans and Congregationalists from the Massachusetts Bay Colony sought to establish a society subject to their own rules. The Massachusetts General Court granted them access to settle around the Hartford area. In 1639, the Fundamental Orders was formed and established Connecticut as a self-ruled entity. One of the framers of the Fundamental Orders, Roger Ludlowe, purchased a large piece of land from the Pequonnock Indians, and the town of Fairfield was established.

Fairfield Public Safety and Services

http://www.fairfieldct.org/publicsafety

The Fairfield Police and Fire Departments respond to thousands of emergencies and calls for service each year and exist to protect and ensure the safety of Fairfield's residents and visitors.  The Police and Fire Departments work around the clock to serve a community with more than 32 miles of residential, commercial and industrial properties, over five miles of shoreline, two college campuses and more than 59,000 residents.  The Emergency Communications Center (ECC) handles more than 100,000 emergency calls annually.

An informed, involved and engaged community remains the number one resource to ensure the safety of our Residents and Visitors.  Fairfield uses CodeRED to communicate with residents in the event of emergency situations or critical community alerts.  Examples include: evacuation notices, bio-terrorism alerts, boil water notices, and missing child reports.
